Timothy Janowick retired as Chief of Police from the Mount Prospect (IL) Police Department where he has served from July 1994 until October 2017. He is a charter member of ILEETA. During his career, he has served as an evidence technician, youth officer, supervisor of the Major Accident Investigation Team, patrol sergeant, trainer, training coordinator, and Operations Commander. In 2004, the agency tasked him with developing the department’s first in-house training program. Over 6 years, the program grew to include 33 instructors teaching topics including first aid/CPR, use of force, defensive tactics, use of intermediary weapons, racial profiling, firearms tactics, ballistic shield use for patrol, physical fitness and nutrition, and police suicide awareness. Janowick specializes in teaching use of force, racial profiling, adult learning, and management/leadership. He provided law enforcement training to the Mount Prospect Police Department, to police recruits as an adjunct instructor with the Suburban Law Enforcement Academy at the College of DuPage, and to active duty police officers as an instructor with the North East Multi-Regional Training Group (NEMRT), ILEETA, and other law enforcement organizations. After retiring, he served the US Department of Justice's International Criminal Investigative Training Assistance Program (ICITAP) in Ukraine and Saudi Arabia designing and implementing law enforcement reform and capacity building projects. He contracted with the US State Department's Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (USDOS/INL) in Serbia and the Republic of Georgia providing instructor development training and conducting assessments on crime scene management and evidence procedures. Professional memberships include the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP), the Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police (ILACP), the American Society for Training and Development, and the Illinois Tactical Officers Association. He serves on the Executive Board of the International Managers of Police Academies and College Training with the IACP.
